Respiratory Droplet Barrier

Face masks, such as surgical or procedure masks, are a type of PPE worn over the mouth and nose. They act as a mechanical barrier to reduce the spread of large-particle droplets, splashes, or splatter, protecting the wearer from contaminants and preventing the wearer’s own respiratory droplets from reaching others. More specialized types, like N95 respirators, are designed for tighter facial seals and higher filtration efficiency against smaller airborne particles.
